When it was first announced that Natsume was planning on relaunching Wild Guns, I was a little apprehensive. Was this to be on the iPhone or Android platform, where a lot of these titles appear? Was this going to go all “current gen” with the graphics and lose its charm? Not all concerns were eliminated prior to the Electronic Entertainment Expo but now, after seeing Wild Guns Reloaded in action, I feel better.
Natsume have posted a gameplay trailer of Wild Guns Reloaded on Youtube (embedded below). From this video we can easily see that they are holding true to the roots of the game. This is great news. So many companies, when rebooting an old franchise, decide to go 3D or some weird art style that doesn’t fit. All of that has been left out of Wild Guns Reloaded, thankfully.
Give fans what they want and they will give you money. Deal?
What fans can expect is hand drawn sprite art and over the top shooting action. This really looks like it is just the next game in the series with some graphical updates and other improvements. That is how these types of releases should be handled. Natsume are not messing with success and that is great news for fans of the franchise.
Natsume holds a rich history in retro gaming that spans from the Nintendo Entertainment System to the Playstation 2 and Nintendo DS. They have been around a lot longer than most fans realize, creating games and developing for others.
What other Natsume classics need to make a similar comeback? Shadow of the Ninja? How about S.C.A.T. or Abadox? Any fans of Power Blade 1 and 2 or Pocky and Rocky? They also hold a few role playing games such as Lufia, maybe it is time to see a reboot of that series?
