River City Tokyo Rumble Nintendo 3DS Shown at E3 2016

Okay, I know there is a fan or two out there for this one.  This year at the Electronic Entertainment Expo River City Tokyo Rumble was shown for the Nintendo 3DS.  This is a continuation of the long running series that started with River City Ransom on the Nintendo Entertainment System.

“We know there’s a loyal fanbase of the River City series in North America who have been asking for more of these addictive games to play!” said Hiro Maekawa, President & CEO of Natsume. “Whether you’re a longtime River City fan or new to the series, there’s plenty of side-scrolling action to love.”

Apparently the bottom screen on the 3DS, and 2DS, is used to show a map with your current place.  The top screen shows you the action part.  This is where you will fight, talk to people and generally interact with the game world.

There are a few mini games intended for the final release.  A four player brawl and a dodgeball game (a subtle nod to a spinoff of the series on the Nintendo NES).

It is cool that Natsume is making a return, of sorts.  They are also remembering their heritage and that of the games they are releasing.  The River City series is celebrating its 30th birthday in Japan this year.  What better time to release the latest in the series?

“River City its celebrating its 30th anniversary in Japan in 2016, and we’re excited to be part of the celebration,” said Minoru Kidooka, CEO of Arc System Works. “We’re very excited to be continuing our partnership with Natsume, which included Gotcha Racing and Brave Tank Hero in 2015.”

If you are a fan of scrolling brawlers then here you go.  Don’t let Natsume down, I am sure other companies are watching to see how well this sells.  River City Tokyo Rumble will be available late this year.
