I did a similar article for the 3DO console recently. This got me to thinking, what other platforms were killed before they could hit that prime development cycle known as the 4th and 5th generation software. There are plenty but only one has been literally kept alive because of fans alone. That is the Sega Dreamcast. Here are five great exclusive games you are only going to find on Sega’s final console.
1) Seaman by Sega
You would think that Sega would have kept this one alive on newer platforms but they have completely left this aquarium on the Dreamcast. The point of this one was quite farfetched but it was based on those old Tomagotchi things that were popular in the 90’s and early 2000’s. You had this microphone attachment for your controller and used it to interact with your “fish”. The end game was to have your creature fully form into a land based animal and leave the tank.
Leonard Nimoy (RIP) worked on this one.
2) Illbleed by AIA
Okay, this is one title that many reading this will have to go and check out first hand soon. Why? Because most people simply missed this one when it was released. This is a new take on the horror genre. How? A theme park of sorts is the setting. The uniqueness doesn’t stop there though. How you deal with the horror is also unique and interesting. Illbleed is only available on the Dreamcast too so get to hunting folks.
3) Fighting Vipers 2 by Sega
Okay, this is a double exclusive. First, it is either arcade or Sega Dreamcast. Second, it is a Japanese exclusive title. Does that make it any less worth playing? Nope. As with many of Sega’s 16-Bit games, Fighting Vipers 2 is unique for its take on an old genre- 3D fighting. Check out the characters in the video and tell me you don’t want to at least try it out.
4) Zombie Revenge by Sega
This is another arcade or console exclusive for the Sega Dreamcast. It is also another creature hunt (they are a lot of fun). Zombie Revenge was pretty much a spinoff from the popular House of the Dead series but in a more action-y role.
5) Sega Rally 2 by, um, Sega
This is obviously a racing game. Continuing the fun we had on the Sega Saturn with the first Sega Rally game, Sega Rally 2 adds more of everything. Racing fans already know about this one, casual racing fans- give this one a shot.
