Nintendo was quite hard on any kind of ritualistic or religious imagery in games that appeared on their 8-Bit console. This was very much thanks to the fact that Nintendo had a death grip on third parties and their games. Many feel this is the only reason Nintendo got as big as they are. Anyhow, enough of the bibble babble. Crypto is an overhead action game that would probably have a little bit of trouble with passing Nintendo guidelines.
That may be a slight stretch as there is nothing really “religious” in Crypto. The point is to get relics from around the level and place them in the middle of the level. Once you complete this task, you have completed the ritual and move to the next level. The goal sounds so simple. In true videogame fashion, things are not as simple as they seem at first.
There are many enemies roaming the levels that want nothing more than to tear at you. You can sustain four hits in Crypto before seeing the Game Over screen. Use them wisely.
The relics are heavy so playing Crypto alone will definitely test your dexterity. As the Kabraxis, the devs, website mentions, playing two player and both players moving the relics is faster than doing it alone. Also, with a second player you can have one moving the relic while the other defends the “muscle” of the team.
Crypto was created as part of the Global Game Jam session earlier this year. There are not a lot of co-op two player games on the Nintendo Entertainment System which helps Crypto stand out even more.
If you want to grab a copy of Crypto then head over to Itch.io and support independent developers. The price they are asking is quite low.
