It is interesting to note that while we just covered another indie movie to game combo by Joe Grisaffi (Conjoined), he is not resting. Joe has another movie available that is receiving the game treatment. Dead of Knight is being ported to the Vectrex console. I say ported because it is based on the Atari 2600 game by Gemintronic. Luchs Soft in Germany is handling the port to the Vectrex. The question is, is this the early days of something that may start happening more and more, retro gaming releases based on indie movies?
The synopsis of Dead of Knight is kind of interesting. There is a rampaging spirit, or creature, that is brutally murdering friends of a girl named Marla. She tries to warn them but the medieval knight is kind of winning that battle.
“I grew up with the Atari 2600 and Vectrex,” says director Joe Grisaffi. “I am thrilled that programmer Jason Santuci stepped up when I originally posted the idea of making a game based on the film on the AtariAge forums. Jason has been a pleasure to know and work with. When I reached out to Sascha at Luchs Soft regarding the possibility of making a game, he jumped on this one!”
The game based on Dead of Knight is unique in you are controlling the knight- Sir Gasparay. Sir Gasparay’s spirit has possessed the body of an athlete in modern times. It seems that you are controlling the bad guy in Dead of Knight. Now that you have a brand new, youthful, body you have to search out people that exemplify chivalric traits. And kill them. The end goal is to eventually capture Marla and bring her to the evil queen named Sofia. Once you accomplish this task you will be able to fight Queen Sofia in a world shattering battle.
Dead of Knight for the Vectrex is available on Luchs-soft.de and the movie can be viewed, for free, on the Kings of Horror Youtube channel (embedded above).
