June- So Bad It’s Good Month

There will never be an end to games that are objectively terrible in the world of gaming. From bad design choices such as a eliminating everything which made the original great, to being an experimental game which didn’t quite execute as intended, bad games are a part of our lives. But there is one experience most gamers will not share amongst each other: the shame of having a love affair with a terrible game such as Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing which is just plain awful yet somehow can provide a gamer with countless hours of nonsensical fun.

The writers here at RGM believe June is a time to celebrate these games that did not quite receive the love that they wanted. As such we have designed June as our official “So Bad its Good Month,” a time to celebrate the joys of games we loved even though they were hated by the masses. We are also welcoming any commenters to tell us about a game they loved that was panned by critics or players (or both) along with what made it enjoyable to them. The games we will speak about this month will have few if any objectively redeeming features, but as people we are all a diverse cast that have varying taste. We are hoping that by speaking of the good aspects of these games that perhaps we will vindicate them through history and take them for what they were, the attempt of another human being at creating the art which is Video Games.

The rules are simple; each week there will be one (or multiple) article(s) detailing what made “insert game title here” great. There are no requirements, but it would be good to provide contrasting opinions as to what it was that made the game so terrible to begin with, and why they think it was overlooked. At the end of the day, this event is designed to allow players to finally have a moment in which they can freely speak without fear of consequence about a game that is special to them (and perhaps only to them). Who knows? Maybe we will discover other people who share our opinions of these games as well.
