Dorke and Ymp Has Been Eerily Greenlit on Steam

It is no secret that I am a fan of Piko Interactive and their continued work in keeping the retro gaming community with new games to play.  They have been doing this for years, acquiring the rights to unreleased games, finishing them and releasing them as they were intended.  Sometimes we get these games on new platforms that, had it not been for Piko rescuing them, may not have been released on.  One such title that has received this treatment recently was Dorke and Ymp, a Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) title that Piko Interactive picked up, finished and released.

Dorke and Ymp is an action platform title that features a lot of mainstays that you would expect from a Super Nintendo title.  Multi scrolling backgrounds, colorful levels and tons of animation in not only the characters but the levels themselves.  Judging by the gameplay video that was released awhile back (featured in my article here) Dorke and Ymp is quite impressive.

This is not a single screen title.  No, Dorke and Ymp features levels that are sprawling horizontally and vertically.  Not quite Super Metroid in depth, the levels still will offer quite a bit of challenge to gamers.

As I mentioned in my previous coverage of Dorke and Ymp, this game is more Super Mario than Sonic the Hedgehog.  That simply means that you are going to be searching all over for solutions as they appear.  That is in contrast to Sonic games where you simply avoided enemies and tried for the fastest time for the level.

The reason I am writing about Dorke and Ymp now is that it was successful in getting through the Greenlight program with Steam.  Interestingly, it was successful with 666 votes.  The votes are not public so it is not something that could have been arranged by fans, it simply happened.  Considering the content of Dorke and Ymp, it is quite funny to have garnered that many votes specifically.

Congratulations to Piko Interactive in bringing yet another cool console style game to Steam.  We need more companies like Piko Interactive.  Remember, support those supporting your hobby and interests.
