Okay, here is a premise that is somewhat unique in description if not in execution. You are tasked as playing Mega Man in a tactical role playing game. Fine so far, we have seen this many times in gaming. Here you are playing Mega Man inside of a computer though. Matrix maybe? Not really. This series tells the story of a world where computers and networking have progressed exponentially faster than robotics did. How the game plays is where the charm lays.
Bucking the franchise norm
The basic Mega Man stuff is still here- you have your MegaBuster gun and can upgrade here and there. The differences are that you are fighting in a 6×3 grid against an enemy in similar restraints. You are able to upgrade with chips prior to battle so it is not just the same old same old each battle.
Mega Man Battle Network has legs
This series has seen about six or seven games released over the years. Capcom has also licensed out the Mega Man Battle Network for manga, anime and even a board game. Capcom was prolific in keeping the Mega Man Battle Network alive up till about 2009 (the year the last game was released). This is sad news as there was obviously a following for the series- six to seven games, manga, anime and a board game all in eight years? Why it dropped from Capcom’s radar, we may never know.
Die hard fans at work
There are some fans that are updating the original with 3D (for computers). It is currently a work in progress and there is a demo available. I suggest grabbing this demo as quickly as possible, before Capcom shuts this project down.
If the Nintendo Game Boy Advance is your portable of choice then check out these other GBA titles.
If you are looking for Mega Man Battle Network for your collection then hit Ebay or Amazon and grab a copy. You won’t regret it.
