The early days of brawlers such as Vigilante and Kung Fu Master had a certain charm to them. They were not as complicated as the later entries in this genre such as Final Fight and Double Dragon. No, those early games had direct fun written all over them- none of that cheap “side stepping” that enemies pulled later. Everyone was on the same plain of battle, much like action games- you either hit them or they hit you and that was it. Dragon Climax remembers those days and hopes you do too.
In Dragon Climax you are able to control one of two characters- Shinya or Kasuga through seven stages of 2D side scrolling action. There is a story to the action which you can read on the Steam Greenlight page. Judging by the video that is available about Dragon Climax, this is going to be quite the reminder of the 8-Bit days. There are levels in the forest, city, caves, and more in your ongoing battle with knife wielding thugs and the occasional gun toting gangster.
You can even change your appearance to suit your tastes. Fights are apparently one hit affairs so make your attack count before the enemy ventilates your body. You won’t have to worry about scrolling up or down in Dragon Climax- just move left/right, jump and attack the enemies. Simple. Just like the good old days.
Seep have previously released another 2D side scrolling action title called SEEP Universe- also on Steam. I covered that release here on Retro Gaming Magazine awhile back. SEEP Universe attempted to get crowdfunding on IndieGoGo but failed, only raising 17% of their projected goal. This did not hinder it being finished and released though.
