There is a trend in homebrew development that involves taking modern ideas and making games for classic platforms. We have seen this most prominently with Bejeweled style games being released on Game Boy Advance and other platforms. With Ninja Savior we see another mobile game style being released for a classic platform. The MSX computer is home to a new “jumping” game. On mobile these are known as “wall jump” games and are annoying as all get out to me. Ninja Savior takes the annoying parts of wall jump games and removes them altogether, leaving a new take on a boring concept.
Rather than being an endless jumper, Ninja Savior features a boss at the top of each level and challenges to face. Annoyance #1 removed. There is no scrolling to worry about in Ninja Savior so you are not knocked off by some speeding obstacle. Annoyance #2 removed. There are obstacles between the walls that must be avoided, otherwise this would be a boring game. There are also items out there that must be collected. The boss at the top of the screen is an evil demon that must be defeated by collecting the scrolls in between the buildings. If you fall down the building, due to gravity, to the burning area below you take damage.
Damage is handled in a tug of war style power meter. You and the boss both share the same power meter. Depending on how well you play, you can easily dispatch the boss- play horribly and it will be a long day. You must get the icon in the power bar all the way to the right which will make the demon leave. Hit the enemies in the air and you take damage and the demon gains it. Talk about a bad day.
