The classic Ghosts n Goblins by Capcom is a venerable title. You either enjoy it for the challenge level or you hate for the challenge level. Personally, I am not a “super fan” of the series but I can respect its place in history. Capcom has one of the best game catalogs in gaming, next to Nintendo, with varied genres covered. Ghosts n Goblins is one of their most treasured franchises that is most often ignored. Someone has taken Open BOR (Beats of Rage engine mod) and created a homage to Capcom’s classic. Complete with scanlines.
For modern gamers scanlines is probably an alien concept. Why you would want to make the game look worse on purpose, you may be thinking. Well, back in the day scanlines were the norm and for many of us, a reminder of better times in gaming. They are back in Ghosts n Demons and I like them.
BonusJZ has taken a lot of liberties with the OpenBOR engine. Making it do things it was not intended to do in the first place. Things like 2D side scrolling action games. OpenBOR was designed to make Streets of Rage/Final Fight style games. Not Super Mario or similar arcade games. Basically, Ghosts n Demons probably should not be running on the OpenBOR engine, at least not technically.
While not a perfect clone of Capcom’s classic, Ghosts n Demons is still quite similar. Some liberties taken with the premise include being able to stomp on the heads of enemies. In the original you may remember that ANY touch from an enemy was counted as a hit and you lost armor/lives. Not in Ghosts n Demons, now you can jump on their heads and stomp them out like Mario would if he was ever to do a true haunted house level.

Thanks, Retrocollect, for the heads up.
