New Super Nintendo games is a rare thing. We see them from time to time, not often though. Couple that with the fact that Dorke and Ymp is now available on a Super Nintendo cartridge and it is almost a phenomenon of retro gaming. Dorke and Ymp is a title that was started years ago, shelved and then revived by Piko Interactive in recent years. 2D action platform fans will feel right at home with Dorke and Ymp, maybe even a little cheated that we did not see this game released years ago. Better late than never, right?
What Dorke and Ymp was intended to be is pretty much a very detailed action platform game. Gameplay is all about finding solutions to problems that you face in the levels. Basically, Dorke and Ymp is more Super Mario World than it is Sonic the Hedgehog- exploration over speed. That means you can take your time, enjoy each level and explore it to the fullest extent- gathering everything possible, defeating every enemy.
Piko Interactive are offering Dorke and Ymp on brand new Super Nintendo cartridges. These are not cannibalized “sports” games or some other donor cartridge like you would get from less reputable sources. This means that Piko is not removing another title from the marketplace just to add theirs. If people keep using donor carts we may end up in a market where original sports games garner more than truly rare titles. That is scary.
It was apparently not all simply just putting the game on a cartridge and making some boxes/manuals for it. When Dorke and Ymp came to Piko Interactive, it was about half way completed. There were over 100 bugs that were fixed, all four world bosses finished (based on the original design documents) and more. This is why I love companies like Piko Interactive. They are licensing the games, finishing/fixing them and then releasing them. Legally.
Interested in picking up a copy of Dorke and Ymp for the Super Nintendo, then head over to Piko’s store. They have more than a few titles available for many platforms. To support this game on Steam please upvote it on Steam Greenlight.
