Classic Super Nintendo Brawler, Legend, Sees Release on Steam by Piko Interactive

Okay, this is getting to be too cool.  Piko Interactive have licensed yet another Super Nintendo classic, Legend, and released it on modern digital distribution services, Steam.  Piko Interactive have been prolific in turning the image of retro gaming around- rather than releasing illegal reproductions, they have licensed the rights to classic games.  These releases are legal and usually feature some kind of additional work that makes them better than the originals.  Fans of Streets of Rage and Final Fight will definitely find something worth their money and time in Legend for the Super Nintendo.

For those that are not familiar with this, late in the SNES life’s, release- you take on the role of a fantasy warrior straight out of Conan.  Combat is weapon based, similar to Samurai Shodown, but in the style of Final Fight and Streets of Rage.  The scenes that you will fight through are varied- one minute it is a village setting with wagons in the background then you may be fighting in a fog infested bog (complete with translucent fog). Legend_Steam_Piko_Interactive_retro_retrogaming (1)

Brawler titles are a series that sort of fell out of favor with the fans after the 16-Bit era ended.  They were big in the arcades and with the advent of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Genesis (even the Turbo Grafx-16 Super CD-ROM saw a brawler), they just got bigger.  Then when the Sony Playstation hit and Sega Saturn hit, for some reason publishers just sort of ignored this genre.  Sure we got a few, even a remake of Legend on the PSOne, it was just not as commonplace to see them.

Right now, over on Steam, Legend is on sale for 15% off so you can save a little bit.  It is only $4.99 at full price (cheaper than Nintendo prices SNES games on their Virtual Console).  Supporting companies like Piko Interactive means we may see more titles get rescued from the obscurity of time.
