Streets of Rage 2 is a fan favorite for the Sega Genesis and for good reason. Fans have created hacks that have brought in other characters like Scott Pilgrim and even fixed the censoring that Sega performed back in the day. The fun just keeps coming. Now, a fan has taken the original game, changed out the four main characters that Sega provided and replaced them with bosses from the game. Kind of like Street Fighter II Championship Edition, now you can play as the bosses.
Streets of Rage 2 was the continuing answer from Sega to Capcom’s mega popular Final Fight franchise (which only saw one release in the arcade but three on the SNES). While Capcom’s franchise was getting worse with each release, Sega was just improving Streets of Rage (remember those days? When Sega games got better as they went).
Brawling fans were in heaven during the 16-Bit era, we didn’t know how well we had it. Even the fighting game fans were well served during the 16-Bit era. Sega’s Genesis was host to many brawling titles but none really challenged Streets of Rage 2 for supremacy, though everyone will have their own opinion on that little statement.
The bosses included in this hack are Shiva, Zamza, R. Bear and Abadede. While you may be upset that your favorite boss is not included, the hacker that created this may do another hack with other bosses thrown into the mix.
I do not have a download link for the hack so I cannot link to it. All that is available right now is the Youtube video above showing off the Boss Rush hack of Streets of Rage 2. If a download link ever appears, I will update this article with that information.
What are your favorite Streets of Rage 2 hacks?
