When Nintendo released Dr. Mario they received a fair bit of criticism by fans and parents. Most gamers just enjoyed the game for what it was- a cool puzzle title that had a unique spin on it. Nintendo didn’t buckle under the pressure (they saved that for the whole blood situation in Mortal Kombat II) and even ported Dr. Mario to the Gameboy and eventually the Super Nintendo. That showed the critics and the parents that had a problem with the content. Well, fast forward to today and we have Dr. Hello for the Sega Master System.
Seen on the United Kingdom Ebay, Dr. Hello is apparently a Korean Exclusive title (professionally released homebrew). Judging by the blurry pic of the back of the case, Dr. Hello is almost exactly like the Nintendo original. The title screen is very similar, the game screen is nearly a spitting image copy of Dr. Mario too.
Korean exclusives are mostly an oddity as they are not official releases. They are also usually heavy on the illegal stuff, at least if they were released officially here in the states the publisher would surely face legal action. Dr. Hello is no different. If this was given a proper release here in the United States it would require a lot of changes and edits.
Dr. Hello apparently features eight rounds (Dr. Mario featured what, 20?), supports 1 or 2 players and you can play with the Sega Control Pad or the Control Stick. All in all, this release looks professional with the packaging, though the auction I found doesn’t offer the manual, just the box and game. That makes me wonder, is there a manual for this or is this auction “all” there is for this release? Possibly it is.
Dr. Hello for the Sega Master System can be had from this Ebay UK auction, if you are really into owning “every” game made for a console.
