With Halloween having just passed, it I still a good time to discuss fun games that feature the tropes of the season (after all, Wal-Mart has already put out Christmas decorations). Boot Hill Blaster is just one such title which has just been released for Windows, Macintosh and Linux. What we have here is an arena style shooter with ghosts, tombstones, pumpkins and more. There is a demo available for those not interested in dropping the, very, modest entry price.
Boot Hill Blaster could be thought of as being in the same vein as Bomberman (site link). Everything is contained on one screen. This was an entry in the recent NESJAM competition, where titles are made to be similar to Nintendo Entertainment System games- i.e., severe limitations on sound and graphics.
In the demo you are limited to a 20 point limit and only one monster. For a buck you gain access to scoring whatever you can, more monsters, health power ups and more. There is also a list of things that could be added in the future if there is enough interest to warrant them. These include:
More power ups
More monsters to take out
You may be thinking that it is kind of stupid for the dev to list those things as possibly coming but keep in mind, Boot Hill Blaster will only set you back a buck (more if you feel generous, the dev won’t turn it away).
Boot Hill Blaster is available on the Itch.io platform which means you get a few things. For one, it is a pay what you want as long as it is above the minimum set ($0.99 right now) and you get the game for three platforms- Windows, Macintosh and Linux. Quite cool for those that are looking for more games on platforms other than Windows.
