Thanks to SS_Shooter, in the comments below, I stand corrected- the Sega Dreamcast did receive an official Bomberman game. Please disregard the opening sentence that has been stricken out. Bomberman fans will likely remember that the Sega Dreamcast never received an official version of that classic, nor a homebrew variation. Sure, you could load up a Super NES emulator or whatever and illegally download the game and play it on your Dreamcast that way but it would not be the same. Well, soon you will be able to purchase a copy of Alice Dreams Tournament which will be doing their best to bring back memories of playing that Hudson/now Konami classic. The game is basically done, the Kickstarter project will be used mainly as a way to gauge the number of copies they need to have created, to pay for advertising and promotion of Alice Dreams Tournament and other miscellaneous bills. If you thought Elysian Shadows was the only new Sega Dreamcast game coming, you are wrong.
Check out the gameplay video and see for yourself- Alice Dreams Tournament has a serious Bomberman feel to it. Other than the basics, the similarities between the two games is quite staggering. Alice Dreams Tournament uses the Visual Memory Unit (VMU) of the Sega Dreamcast in one of the modes (hide and seek) in a very interesting manner. Other modes include Multikill, just kill as many enemies as possible, capture the flag and Assault where you protect your boxes but must blow up those of your enemy.
There are a couple more modes that will be available, one – Mental arithmetic, is not explained all that well. The other, Bodyguard pits one player as the target and their teammate must protect them, like a bodyguard would. This is a rather interesting set of game modes that they are including- definitely more interesting than the original Bomberman games (sorry, they are classic but FAR from perfect).
The Kickstarter project for Alice Dreams Tournament is expected to launch sometime this month. I like how they are planning to do it, the game is finished- no having to wait months/years for the game.
When the Kickstarter goes live I will add a link to it here, till then, check out their website.
