The Nintendo Entertainment System is a venerable little console, the fans are keeping this thing alive longer than anyone would have thought possible. I am not just talking about rom hacks, fan translations and homebrew digital releases – those happen quite a bit already. I am talking about physical cartridges for homebrew and independent titles getting released. Piko Interactive is one publisher/developer that is doing just that with their latest release, Quest Forge- by Order of Kings. It is available right now, on a physical cartridge and can even be purchased with the box and other goodies. Just like the good old days of gaming before everything went digital.
In Quest Forge you take control of Sir Nils, one of the knights of Castle Axvald. The king is in need of help and Sir Nils is the only knight that steps forward to accept the dangerous mission ahead. Lucky you. The World Orb controls the demon gate which keeps our world separate from the spirit world. That orb has been stolen. It is your job to get the World Orb back safely and stop the demon gate from being opened. Fail and our world will surely end as we know it. Along your journey Sir Nils will be able to obtain eight artifacts that will increase various attributes helping in his quest.
Quest Forge is a turn based role playing game played from the overhead perspective, like the original Ultima games for instance. Battles are carried out in a manner that uses timing and statistics in unique ways- definitely not a case of choose “attack” till your enemy is dead, you will need to develop a certain level of skill for these battles.
