It is not often that I get all that excited about a Kickstarter but well, there is always that one that just won’t let me shut up. Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs is now on Kickstarter and looking might freaking nice. This is not a case of someone wanting to make a “homage” or a “fanmake” but people that have taken the time to properly handle their interest in this franchise. The team behind this Kickstarter have gotten full support from World Events Productions (WEP), the IP owner. WEP also owns Voltron: Defender of the Universe and Denver the Last Dinosaur (I have heard of, but never viewed Denver, anyone know if it was good?). To add to the fun they have even gotten support of the original animation company, Studio Pierrot. If they are able to reach their stretch goals, we will see this 16-Bit run and gun game hit the Super Nintendo and the Turbo Grafx-16, of all systems.
For those that have no clue what Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs is about, it is the title that probably most influenced later series such as SilverHawks (Tally HO!) and Bravestarr- both of which barrowed from the same pool for inspiration. Basically Saber Rider is a space based western, what most kids that grew up in the 80’s thought the future would hold for us- mechanical horses, personal flight vehicles whipping around space and cool, bad-ass, space suits.
Not only that, the voice talent involved in Saber Rider is a AAA list of people lead by the man himself, the iconic voiced Peter Cullen. There are turtles (Rob Paulsen and Townsend Coleman), a Thundercat (Pat Musick) and even Bravestarr (Pat Fraley) rounding out the cast of voice talent. Quite a list there.
This Kickstarter is a push by a group of people that love Saber Rider and wish to tell the official FULL story (the animated series as crippled for many reasons). They are using the original sketches, animation cells, etc all of which were obtained legally for this project. To show support for those that support them, the art will be collected in an art book and made available for fans that want it.
If the base goal is met Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs will hit the Nintendo 3DS, Windows, Macintosh and Linux. Stretch goals add the Nintendo Wii U, Sega Dreamcast (YES!), PC-Engine (Turbo Grafx-16 in North America), Super Famicom (Super Nintendo in North America), Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Also, an Amiibo is on the stretch goal list.
There you go, if you want to finally know the full story of Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, to be able to play it, you need to support this Kickstarter.

This one is a success on Kickstarter. Still time left, as of this writing, to pledge and get a limited edition Dreamcast or Turbo Grafx-16 copy though.
