Starquake Makes the Move from Atari ST to Atari Jaguar

Not too long ago we mentioned that there were over 50 new Atari Jaguar titles coming in the next year or so.  Keeping with that comment I am bringing news about another Atari ST game coming to the Atari Jaguar, Starquake.  Atari Jaguar gamers will soon be able to take control of their own Bio-Logically Operated Being (BLOB for short) in a mission to enter the unstable core of a rogue planet that has somehow appeared out of a black hole (not something that happens every day).  Previously Starquake has been seen on a plethora of home computers in North American and across the globe, the Atari Jaguar will be the first console Starquake has graced with its presence.

Considering this is the Atari ST version, the “newest” of the ports of Starquake, the graphics are about on par with those of the Sega Genesis’ first generation of releases.  While no Gunstar Heroes, Starquake can hold its own against the competition.  Starquake is a 2D side scrolling action platform affair that features fast moving enemies that are easily dispatched (it is the sheer number you have to worry about).

At this time there is no word on if the Atari Jaguar port will retain the screen by screen progression of the original Atari ST version or not.  Judging by the comments on Atari Age’s forums by the person responsible for the port, we can expect this to stay rather than there be any scrolling effect added.  These ports are apparently complicated but well within the abilities of single person teams due to the way the Atari ST and the Atari Jaguar operate so we can expect to see a ton of ports in the future.

Head over to the Atari Age forums if you would like to follow development of this port of Starquake to the Atari Jaguar as close as possible.
