River City Ransom Underground Awaiting Approval on Steam Greenlight

If you want to see River City Ransom: Underground on Steam then you better show some support for it.  It is not enough that it was a success on Kickstarter, which matters little to Valve.  What matters to them is your votes and support.  For those that do not know about River City: Underground, it is a sequel to the original title on the Nintendo Entertainment System.  Oh, the graphics are all hand drawn sprites, like they were done back in the day too.

River City Ransom: Underground is apparently “a free roaming multi-player fighting action RPG set in a hand-drawn pixel universe”, as stated on the Steam Greenlight page.  To get Steam Greenlit River City Ransom: Underground will require your help.  If you want to see more pixelated action on the popular distribution service then get over there and vote.

Some specs from the Steam Greenlight page:

Over 100 hand-drawn levels
8+ Heroes, each with dozens of unique fighting moves
An open world where you fight, shop and upgrade your character’s abilities
10 tenacious and varied enemy gangs to conquer
Local or online multiplayer co-op campaign story
Local or online multiplayer arena fighting mode
Super-responsive peer-to-peer (P2P) networking technology

According to that list we can expect more of what made the original River City Ransom so much fun on the Nintendo Entertainment System.  Upgrading abilities and replenishing health through foods such as sushi coupled with a, now, more open world should bring back fond memories for most gamers out there.

There have been ports of the original River City Ransom to systems such as the Sharp X68000 (featured in our second issue), the PC-Engine, Wii and Nintendo 3DS.  To say it has gotten around is a slight understatement.
