Curses ‘N Chaos to Remind Gamers of Classic Arcade Days on Playstation 4 and PS Vita

The glory days of arcade gaming are all but forgotten now as an even younger generation of gamers (one that has no memory of life before the Internet) is taking charge in gaming.  There are still a few of us left that remember dropping quarters into the latest SNK title (may I mention prior to the whole fighting game craze when SNK was original?).  Seeing those graphics that the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis couldn’t touch was just something magical, not to mention the musical capabilities of the Neo Geo hardware.  Those were the days when every so often a visit to the local arcade yielded a surprise discovery of a new arcade game by Capcom, Konami, Sega, SNK or one of many others vying for our quarters.  Tribute Games remembers those days quite well and they are proving it with their upcoming title, Curses ‘N Chaos for the Playstation 4 and PS Vita.

For anyone that has never touched an arcade game in their life get ready for a brutal treat, one you will either love or you will hate with every ounce of your being.  There is very little hand holding in arcade titles like this but for those willing to traverse the learning curves there are usually some great times to be had as you “do just a little better than last time”.  The graphics are pixelated to hell and back, just like they were back in the day, super detailed and clearly designated as to what will, and will not, kill you with one little touch.

There are plenty of games like Curses ‘N Chaos getting released on various platforms but very few are as interestingly laid out.  It takes more than just blocky graphics to make a great arcade game and it appears that Tribute Games have their finger on the fading pulse of arcade gaming.  Now it is up to the true retrogaming fans to support them so that we can possibly see more like this in the future.

Curses ‘N Chaos releases on August 18th on the Playstation Network for Playstation 4 and PS Vita.

That’s pretty blocky. It’s like the Atari 7800 had high color and unlimited blitter abilities. Interesting look, looks fun, just a bit extra blocky, hahahhaha. Maybe it needs scanline mode!?

    • Yeah, I agree the graphics are blocky. It would have been cool had they included something like a scanline filter. I mean, if you are going to go “retro” with the graphics, may as well go all out, right?
