Ah Nintendo, a company that is definitely no stranger to licensing out their properties, is now working with Hot Wheels.  This license is reaping about eight new die cast car designs for collectors.  The die cast cars will feature content, graphics or icons from popular Super Mario themed games.  The die cast cars though will not directly reflect the game they are promoting (not even the Super Mario Kart one which was an obvious miss on the part of Hot Wheels).

These little die cast cars are going to be premium pieces that will carry a $4 to $5 price range, based on historical evidence.  That means retrogaming fans will have to kick it up a notch if they want to complete their retro collections.  That is not too bad considering how the cars look and the packaging art work (looks awfully familiar).

The Super Mario Bros car is apparently a dairy delivery van, Volkswagon van for Super Mario World, a station wagon for Dr. Mario, a super small school bus for Super Mario Bros 3, a roadster type van for Super Mario Bros 2 and finally a surfer’s dream ride for Super Mario Kart.  Yep, they missed the boat on Super Mario Kart by not giving it a racing kart, car or something.  Maybe swap out Super Mario Bros 2 for the car in Super Mario Kart and it would have worked but not so much the way they are intending to release these.  Sorry Hot Wheels.

These are expected to be released sometime around this October for a celebration Nintendo is scheduled to have.  Probably the 30^th anniversary of Super Mario Bros and the NES launch (which is a moving target depending on who you ask and what region they live in).
