This is just a rumor at this point, though it comes from Mike Kennedy- the man behind the Retro Video Game System, in an interview he did with VentureBeat. Shovel Knight is rumored to be possibly, somehow, coming to the Retro Video Game System, one of them could be a launch title. There were talks with the developer of Retro City Rampage to bring it over but we have confirmed that is all that happened between the two entities.
We have covered the Retro Video Game System a few times here on RGM (separate entities folks). In the past we have noted the first gameplay footage, developer announcements (and retractions according to effected parties) and even price points on this thing. The reason we have not posted new news on this is well, there hasn’t been much going on to post. It is nearly a case of having to wait till the Kickstarter to know much else.
In his interview with VentureBeat.com, Mike Kennedy revealed that they talked with both Yacht Club (Shovel Knight fame) and with the dev/publisher of Retro City Rampage. Both games are mentioned as possibly coming to the Retro Video Game System by Mr. Kennedy. Apparently they are hoping to have 12 total games, if not more, available at launch (covered here).
It will be interesting, especially at this point, to see how these rumors pan out. We have covered rumors on potential developers but were asked by the parties involved to remove that information so screen cap this page, save it, whatever because we may be asked to redact this information in the future.
I personally think that the Retro Video Game System is in that limbo area prior to their kicking off the Kickstarter project where they need to release just the right amount of information to keep interest high. Right now though, they are not doing that and I think potential fans are getting antsy about it, nearing that point of not caring anymore. This is dangerous for modern games, let alone a brand new venture such as the Retro Video Game System (anyone working on a new name by the way?).
Sound off, what are your thoughts on the Retro Video Game System? Think it is going to take off or die on the launch pad?
