ToeJam and Earl Back in the Groove Success on Kickstarter

The final day of Humanature Studio’s, kick starter project of ToeJam and Earl back in the groove, has seen overwhelming support.  They exceeded their initial $400,000 project target goal by a massive $108,637 to $508,637 with over 8,873 backers of the project.

To Keep everyone upto date with the ToeJam and Earl back in the groove project, Humanature Studio’s are currently building a website http://tjebackinthegroove.com/.  They are informing followers and backers to allow a few weeks for them to get the site up and ready.  It will be the means for everyone to stay in contact with them and fans will be able to see teaser demo’s of the game but its only early stuff so don’t expect to much at this stage.

Why a kickstarter funded project for ToeJam and Earl ?  Well, Greg Johnson, one of the two original creators and owners of the ToeJam & Earl intellectual property, along with his talented associates, decided to finally make that ultimate ToeJam & Earl sequel and says the fans have been asking for a sequel for a very long time.

So what’s it going to be like ?  Well the story is that ToeJam and his homeboy, Big Earl go out for another joyride in their RapMaster Rocketship, and this time Peabo and Lewanda and a few other friends will come along. TJ and Big E. have to take their friends to see Earth, where all the craziness started. And while in orbit around Earth, TJ can’t resist showing off and pressing a mysterious new button on their ship called “Black Hole – DO NOT PRESS!”

The Earth now breaks apart in one of those Time-Warp-Black-Hole-Displacement thingies. Well, TJ, Big Earl, and their playable-character-friends must once again put that darned ship back together.

Greg says it will be more like game one and that thanks to artist Nathan Shorts, they will be going for a new retro look and vibe for the sequel, similar to underground comics form the 1990’s era.

It is expected to make good use of 3D terrain but not like in game 3 where there were complaints of the over the shoulder view making people sick and confused.  The 3D terrain will focus more on fun elements such as zooming in to see the characters better or zooming out to see the stacked levels.  They are going for the ability for the player to see all the levels way below you, and when you fall, where you land on the level below it will make more sense.  Hills will be included and you might be thinking so what ? Greg answers that with 2 words… ROOOCKET SKAAAAATES!!

Even though the new ToeJam and Earl back in the groove sequel will be more like game one, Greg says they will be bringing back some of the things fans asked for from game 2, which might include the Jam Out, hidden presents, buttons and coin meters and possibly they might be able to bring back the Hyperfunk Zone!

At it’s heart TJ & Earl is a multi player and Greg says they are going to allow for 4 coop-players, and online play with a split screen.  Unlike the original TJ&E game, they will now have elements that carry over from game to game, and players can gradually build up as they play repeatedly.

ToeJam and Earl back in the groove is penciled in for a November, 2015 release date and is expected to initially be available on PC (Windows, Mac, and Linux) but they are hoping to eventually put this onto all platforms depending on what funding arrangements they can line up and on meeting our stretch goals.
