Black Lamp Comes to the Atari Jaguar Thanks to Homebrew Developer

Black Lamp is an action platform title that was released on the Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum computers back in the late 80’s.  The story of Black Lamp will sound familiar to anyone that has watched many fantasy movies, or played The Horde (a more recent adventure title).  Black Lamp is a 2D side scrolling action game that wouldn’t look out of place on the Sega Genesis.

Controlling Jack the Jester of the Allegoria kingdom, you are tasked with somehow wooing the princess.  Princess Grizelda (hmmm, familiar name there) is only going to marry a noble heroic man by the order of her father, the King.  The kingdom of Allegoria is protected by the Black Lamp which would totally suck if it was stolen.  That is just what happens when a gang of dragons attack the kingdom.  Without the Black Lamp Allegoria is vulnerable and that is not good.  Thank goodness Jack the Jester is on the scene.  Or not.Black_Lamp_Atari_Jaguar_ST_homebrew_AtariAge (2)

You take control of Jack the Jester and must return the Black Lamp to the King and prove your worthiness to marry his daughter.  This is probably familiar to anyone that has played any action game that involved wining the heart of a woman.  As with winning the heart of a woman, the quest laid out before you in Black Lamp is not going to be an easy one.

There are a total of nine colored lamps that are missing, remember that black one going missing opened the doors for all kinds of chaos.  Black Lamp is interesting in that eight of the lamps are randomly placed throughout the levels, changing location with each new game.  Oh, the major twist is that you are only able to carry one lamp at a time and must return each lamp to a specific location before venturing out for the next.  Talk about a headache.  A headache that you can now enjoy on your Atari Jaguar console.

Atari Age member, CyranoJ, has taken the Atari ST version and converted it to run on the Atari Jaguar console for a whole new generation to enjoy.
