Around here at the RGM offices, we like to see/enjoy new hacks of old games.  There is nothing wrong with the original games, it is just cool to play a slightly new take on them sometimes.  Take Streets of Rage 2 for instance.  It is not a bad game at all but you can only bash heads of thugs in so many times over the last, nearly, two decades without thinking that it would be cool to have something fresh.  Introducing Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers to the world of Streets of Rage 2.

This hack takes sprites from the newer title “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” game that was released on consoles such as the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.  Since the color spectrum on the Sega Genesis is quite a bit lower than the newer consoles, these sprites were reworked a bit in both color and animation to make them suitable for the Sega Genesis hardware.  As with most of these types of hacks, the new characters don’t exactly “blend” all that well with the original cast.  That is to be expected though considering the years between the works.  What would be cool is if someone took the characters and created them in the same style as the rest of the game they are invading.  That would be awesome.

With this hack, picking up any weapon has either Scott Pilgrim or Ramona Flowers do a special looking musical action.  Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers don’t actually use the knife or pipe that you pick up.  This is probably due to there not being any type of animation already available with this style of attack available.  At least the solution “fits” the character rather than not having a different attack when a weapon is in play.

The hack is one of the more interesting ones but it could have been so much bigger had some more effort been implemented.
