We are following the work of Collectorvision quite closely. They are a prolific independent homebrew developer for those that do not know. One title that we have covered a few times here at RGM is Justice Beaver for the Super Nintendo. Justice Beaver is a 2D side scrolling action platform title that is currently in development. Collectorvision has just released new screenshots of World 1-2.
Justice Beaver has pushed through on IndieGoGo for pre-orders, crushing their minimum goal effort. This is great news for independent homebrew developers because it shows there is a significant amount of interest in new titles for the Super Nintendo. Enough interest that tens of thousands of dollars has been thrown at Justice Beaver prior to its release. That is a good sign in my eyes.
This new game is in the same style as classics like Mario mixed with Contra. You are tasked with controlling a little beaver guy who can shoot a gun, jump obstacles and traverse levels that are almost capable of being described as Metroid in style.
Previously we covered the second world, which is presumably lava based. World 1-2 is an ice level though so get ready for slippery slopes and falling snowballs. The pictures that Collectorvision has just released don’t show much in the enemy department though. There is a bat looking creature in one picture while another shows a friendly looking penguin minding his own business. As most retrogaming fans know, the enemies and the levels separate a good action game from a great action game. We will have to wait for the next round of screenshots to, hopefully, see more enemy designs.
Our covering Justice Beaver so much is based on the response the articles are receiving from you, the reader. Retro Gaming Magazine is focused on giving you more of what you want. By sharing, discussing, liking, etc the articles you like, and enough people do that, we will see it and push in that direction. So far, the readers have spoken and you want to hear more about Justice Beaver.
