Ah, the good old days of 8-Bit gaming. For those of us that have been around long enough to remember those days, particularly the end of that era, will probably remember how gamers quickly dropped it. Sure, what is old becomes new again, and in this day and age of super detailed graphics, orchestral audio and more, gamers are looking for a more down to Earth, easier to just enjoy, experience. While Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest is not exactly revered as the best title in the franchise, it is the recipient of more crap than it really deserves.
Infernax by Berzerk Studio has obvious elements from that Konami classic with a pinch of other, similar, side scrolling action games. The usual enemies are present, skeletons, flying creatures and bosses that are larger than life, certainly bigger than your playable character. The aesthetics for Infernax are there. There are patterns for the creatures that will benefit those that are willing to step back and learn them. Infernax is a methodical side scrolling title, this is not Sonic the Hedgehog.
The storyline of Infernax is quite interesting, at least it has not been done a few million times over in games. You play a long time in returning home crusader. Yeah, back in the day of ass kicking and name taking feudalism with knights and such. In Infernax the world has been overtaken by unholy magic (the worse kind). Name a game that has done that before. The story is original, that is for sure.
Infernax has already been funded on Kickstarter, they were asking for only $10 to get going. The reason for such a low amount of funding is that Infernax is basically done, the team just needed a little more assurance that others even want this type of game. They have secured that by a long shot, as of this writing they are nearing $2,000 in funding and still have 26 days to go.
Head over to Kickstarter to show your support for Infernax. The more support shown for these types of games, the more we will likely see released.
