Markus Hohmann, has just released a Youtube preview of his upcoming Amstrad CPC game remake of “Prohibition”. The game originally made for arcade machines, in 1986 by Taito Corp, was called Empire City 1931 and was later ported to home computers under the name of Prohibition.
It was a decent port by Infogrames in 1987 to the Amstrad CPC. Amstrad Action Issue 21 gave it an overall score of 86 out of 100. The game is played as a first person shooter, set during the United States organised crime wave prohibition era. To play the game, you are a vigilante who is determined to stop the mafia dead in their tracks and you control a gun cross hair shooting down the bad guys inside buildings.
Markus Hohmann creator of the excellent JAVA CPC website http://cpc.devilmarkus.de/news.php and also known as Devilmarkus has previously undertaken other projects such as a Cauldron remake in 2008 and more recently, during Christmas 2013 he and his team released Deathsword128k a remake based on Palace’s popular and mega hit Barabarian game.
Markus said his “Prohibition Java Remake is based on the Amstrad CPC version. It is completely coded in Java and will be playable on PC and Mac using mouse controls. Right now it is 98% done and he is working on adding more opponents as well as a better full screen mode.”
