To say thank you to our readers over in France I figured it would be best to bring up a fun bit of news specifically for them. On the Nintendo Famicom, in Japan, we saw a game based on the popular television show, unfortunately, this game never made it stateside. At least not officially. There are a few fan translations of this game making it a fully playable English title but I am not here to discuss those right now- maybe later. No, today I am talking about the French translation of Samurai Pizza Cats for the Nintendo Entertainment System, or is it called the Nintendo Famicom over there?
Since it is greatly possible that most of the people reading this have not heard of this game. Samurai Pizza Cats is based on the cartoon of the same name, which did air here in the United States for about 52 episodes (Japan got 54). It is a melding type show where disjointed things are meshed together. In Samurai Pizza Cats it is old style feudal Japan with slight futuristic trappings and a dash of Disney talking anamorphic giant animals. Yeah, typical Anime stuff here.
The port to the 8-Bit Nintendo platform resulted in a 2D side scrolling action adventure title. Unlike most titles in this genre, for the Nintendo Entertainment System at least, there is a bit of a story told through cut scenes and conversations in the game. This is a little more involved than your usual Super Mario Brothers style game.
It is great to see more games reaching gamers of different languages, even if the releases have to be unofficial. It would have been great to see these happen officially but sometimes there is just not enough money to warrant translating, producing cartridges and marketing a game for every major language. Leave it to fans to fix these problems.
