Most gamers wouldn’t be able to recall Odiesoft’s mega hit game MegaBlasters released on the Amstrad CPC some 20 Years ago. A Bomberman styled clone, it received critical acclaim from gamers and the gaming industry alike. Amstrad Action issue 111, gave it a massive overall score of 94%.
Now 20 years on, the guys at Project Argon, thought it would be a great idea to get together and give gamers a 20 year celebratory gift and release a MegaBlasters sequel called MegaBlasters – Escape from the Castle in the Clouds.
Axelay did the coding, Rexbeng, the graphics, McKlain and Tom&Jerry the sound & music. The plot of the sequel, MegaBlasters – Escape from the Castle in the Clouds, follows the original game’s Bomberman theme. You must clear your screen with the use of bombs and destroy your enemy in the process.
It is an incredible achievement by the team at Project Argon, as this remake has been done entirely, from scratch. On the CPCWIKI forum, Project Argon’s coder, Axelay has said Megablasters – Escape from the Castle in the Clouds, “is a quite large mini game. Without modern compression it would likely have been both sides of a disk.”
Axelay also stated that “as it is a small mini-game to celebrate the anniversary, so it features only one world, though with a few more rounds than a world had in the original game, and the two player mode gets some different maps too. With the difficulty, it’s probably worth remembering that the original game gives you an energy bar, which we dropped for this game.”.
The graphics and music are brilliant. Some gamers who have already played the new MegaBlasters – Escape from the Castle in the Clouds, are saying, that it is, an amazing game and that the sequel has a darker/edgier feel to it, but be warned it is a very challenging game indeed.
