New Game: Inferno Coming to MSX2 Thanks to Aetherbyte Studios

Hell.  A fictional location that is quite popular in media from movies to books and even games.  We have seen games go to Hell such as the PC/3DO title of the same name and adaptations of Dante’s Inferno to name a couple.  Hell is a popular location for games is what I am getting at here.  That is fitting since Aetherbyte Studios, gurus of the Turbo Grafx-16 (check out our first issue for coverage Pyramid Plunder and Insanity- Print/Google Play) are bringing Inferno to a platform that most North American gamers have no clue exists- the MSX2 gaming computer.

The story for Inferno involves a popular gaming problem, amnesia (such as that in Déjà Vu and its sequel) coupled with being in the absolute worst place you could end up.  This is truly Hell, fire nips at your feet from the cracks in the floor, corpses that have their intestines ripped out litter the floor.  The sound of bones being crushed fills the air and maniacal laughter mixes creating an excruciatingly evil atmosphere.

Inferno by Aetherbyte Studios is an all new 2D side scrolling action adventure title for the MSX2 gaming computer.  Inspiration for Inferno is pulled from many other classic titles, one influence I can see is Legendary Axe on the Turbo Grafx-16 platform- look at the main guy in the screenshots and tell me that is not similar to the NEC classic.

The MSX computer was originally released in 1985, 30 years ago, and still receives new titles.  Over the years newer revisions have been released that expanded on the hardware but have not been accepted by consumers enough to make a revival event occur.inferno_screenshot02

Aetherbyte Studios are better known for their Turbo Grafx-16 releases such as Pyramid Plunder, Insanity and Atlantean (first Hu-Card release in 20 years).  We are working with Aetherbyte to follow Inferno through development and also to cover their future projects. Trust us, Aetherbyte Studios are not a one trick studio and have many more projects in the works.
