It is a good day to be a retrogaming fan as several classic Macintosh point and click adventure games have just been released onto Steam. Zojoi, the developer of these titles, has ported them to Windows and newer Macintosh platforms. Amongst the titles brought over only one will not be familiar to Nintendo Entertarinment System gamers.
Uninvited is a horror adventure title that pulls on the old H.P. Lovecraft strings as best a title from this era could. The atmosphere is pretty strong and the brain teasers are not all that off the wall, even though you are dealing with supernatural entities most of the time. Uninvited saw a Nintendo NES release and has been ported to other computer platforms in the past.
Shadowgate is another NES alumni point and click adventure title but in the fantasy realm. The Dungeons and Dragons fans of the time might have picked this one up based on the box art but inside they would find a much simpler title than their beloved board game.
Déjà Vu is a Dick Tracy era film noire adventure title pitting you in the unfortunate position of a man without a memory. While medical knowledge is not required, it is extremely helpful. Loosely based in Chicago we dare you to find the landmarks of Déjà Vu.
Déjà Vu II continues the story of the first title with two thugs from Chicago that have abducted you in Las Vegas (apparently you were on vacation after the first title). After a decent beating at the hands of a high rolling gangster you are left with not much in terms of knowing anything particular about yourself or why you are here. Time to fix that.
The cool thing about these ports is that not only are the Macintosh versions included but also the Apple IIgs versions. That is like getting double the games, that are nearly identical but one has better graphics and sound.
For those of you reading that that cannot stand graphics from 1985 there that remake of Shadowgate on Steam also.
