We have covered wild works in progress and the like for various consoles since we started RGM. One of the more interesting ones was Mario 64 getting ported to the Atari 2600, of all consoles. Interestingly, we have found an even wilder work in progress title, Sony’s Shadow of the Colossus which is currently a Work in Progress (WiP) for the Atari 2600. My question is, why are all of these titles, no matter how bad they will probably be due to limited hardware, getting released for the Atari 2600? Anyhow, read on for pics and more information on Shadow of the Colossus on the Atari 2600 as it currently stands.
Okay, right now, there is no ROM file available so if that is all you are here for, sorry. For those interested in seeing how Shadow of the Colossus 2600 looks, you are in luck. We have several pictures available, when we can, we will have a video too.
Judging by the pictures it looks like this version of Shadow of the Colossus is a 2D affair, what did you really expect a full on 3D experience on the Atari 2600? Some ideas being bounced around for this version’s bosses is to have them be larger than one screen and have the playfield be made up of them. This is a unique way of getting around the graphical limitations of the Atari 2600 and keeping truer to the original source game from the Playstation 2.
As you can see from the pictures, the Atari 2600 version of Shadow of the Colossus is going to be heavy on the “shadow” part. It remains to be seen how closely the bosses will resemble the source material. So far though, Shadow of the Colossus for the Atari 2600 is looking mighty impressive.
