Ah, the classic brawlers. We simply don’t see this genre come up enough in today’s gaming world. Where are the updates to Streets of Rage and Final Fight? Double Dragon, is the one king of arcades, has been kept in the foray of modern gaming. Over the years we have seen the franchise kept alive through variously successful offerings. From hitting the Neo Geo platform in a one on one fighter to iOS and Android with a new take on the series, Double Dragon has done what other classic brawlers apparently could not do. Now, Double Dragon Trilogy is coming to Windows on several platforms with Double Dragon Trilogy.
Double Dragon Trilogy is the original three arcade games with some new trappings added on to keep gamers interested. There are two modes, “Arcade” which is the original that retro gaming fans know and love and then there is “Story” which more like a modern adventure. In Arcade mode you simply play the game of your choice as it was back in the day, no real frills added on.
In Story mode you are tasked with completing various challenges to earn achievements and opening new levels with your progress. This is the mode that old hats that are tired of the originals, or were not very good at them, will probably gravitate towards.
Options are what separate this re-release from the normal ones that we are used to seeing from Sega. Double Dragon Trilogy offers keyboard or controller support, three difficulty modes (easy, original and expert), two soundtracks (8-Bit original or the new re-mastered audio) and even graphics filters (or you can play with the original graphics).
As of this writing we know that Double Dragon Trilogy is coming to Windows via Steam, GoG and Amazon on January 15th.
