Classic point and click adventure titles are making a slight comeback lately. The team behind Maniac Mansion have their new game, Thimbleweed Park, coming (we have an interview in the editing process right now) and now we see another interesting Point and Click title. Fay King: Jungle Jeopardy we find ourselves tasked with not only surviving a plane crash but also rescuing our only paying passenger. See, Faye King is a pilot for hire that doesn’t concern herself with the details of her clients.
Two Tales Entertainment describe themselves as an indie developer that offers free, retro styled, adventure games. Going by their website listing for Faye King: Jungle Jeopardy we can see that they only support Windows machines- though their games may run fine in emulators for other platforms.
The style of Faye King: Jungle Jeopardy is squarely in the realm of LucasArts releases such as the Indiana Jones games, Monkey Island and many others. Text appears over the head of the character talking, descriptions are available for just about everything in the game and there are puzzles that require thought and deduction skills to get around. Nothing is as simple as it appears to be in Faye King. Simply walking into a cave may seem easy enough, you see a body laying inside and think “jackpot”. The problem is in how you get to that body. Simply walking into the cave may trigger a boulder to fall on your head, ending your game early.
Faye King: Jungle Jeopardy is definitely interesting since we don’t see many games in this style. We do see a few but it is nothing like it was a couple of decades ago, before the likes of Doom hit the PC scene. We will continue coverage of Faye King: Jungle Jeopardy up to the release in January 2015.
