Danger Mouse, a cartoon from the late 80’s/early 90’s is making his return to gaming thanks to AmigaPD. This new title is a graphical text adventure title starring the British mouse and his sidekick, Penfold. So far, this is definitely a work in progress. It looks like the graphics are taken from stills of the television series so nostalgia will be high on this as it, hopefully, progresses through development.
For those that do not know what Danger Mouse is all about, please let me enlighten you to this awesome cartoon. Basically, Danger Mouse is a spoof on James Bond and Danger Man but with a “Disney-esque” style to the characters- friendly little furry animals instead of cartoon people. Unlike the world of Disney, for the most part, the world of Danger Mouse is set within the real world. This means that sometimes there are human vehicles to worry about, or worse yet, humans tromping around as Danger Mouse is trying to save the world under our feet.
The Commodore Amiga demo is a text adventure that has stats, akin to Quest for Glory being an adventure game with role playing game trappings. Other titles that you may be familiar with that share this style of interaction include most of Infocoms later released such as Sorcerer. Also, some other homebrew releases in this area include Athenor for the Amstrad CPC and Aurum for the Commodore 64
The interesting thing about AmigaPD release is that they are free but also that they are charityware releases. All charityware means is AmigaPD wishes, if you want to donate money to them, that you donate the money to a charity they have picked out – Mencap.
Fans of the classic cartoon can head over to AmigaPD and grab the demo. Also, apparently, the TV show will be rebooted in 2015 so that is great news for fans.
Once Danger Mouse is completed, lets talk about Count Duckula…
