Diablo, the original one, was released quite a while back, December 1996- nearly 18 years ago. Back then, HD was not around, at least not in North America (I believe it was thriving quite well in Japan), but that has not stopped a dedicated game hacker from creating an HD version of Diablo. Not only are the graphics updated but also things such as life, equipment, etc have been better positioned on the screen and there are new quests and locations along with new items. This is nearly a full on total conversion. Nearly.
First up, Diablo HD brings two new classes for you to quest with, Barbarian and Assassin. Next up, over 200 new unique items were added, over 170 crafting recipes, and many gameplay tweaks. In single player there are now four difficulty levels to challenge you and those new classes, or one of the mainstays. Graphically Diablo HD fully supports panoramic screen and much higher resolutions than the original Diablo ever could.
I remember playing the original Diablo to death, literally. I played so much that my computer died due to a couple of problems- my hard drive died (horrible day there) and another time while playing my power supply gave out. This was during a simpler time of life, the Internet was not as big as it is now and we all had lives that did not revolve around keyboards and small touch screens.
Diablo HD is currently in public Beta, going by the code name Belzebub, version 1.045. To play this modification you will have to go through a few steps, first being owning a copy of the original game which you will need to copy the files over to your hard drive.
