Far Cry 4 mania is all over the modern gaming sites. For the most part, everyone is at least enjoying this latest release in Ubi Soft’s First Person Shooter (FPS) series. That doesn’t leave much for the retro gaming fans out there though, does it? If you are Machinima Respawn on Youtube, you simply make a trailer for Far Cry 4 as if it was being released on Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. Video after the jump.
This demake is one that really goes far in its effort to fool people into thinking this was to be a real game. Everything is viewed from the overhead perspective, much like it would be if it was really released on the SNES or Sega Genesis. The care that went into this video is beyond fathoming.
As you can see, the game has a very Cannon Fodder or Soldiers of Fortune look to it. That is to be expected, no one really thinks that the 16-bit consoles could actually pull of a FPS that was anywhere near as graphical as the original Far Cry 4.
At the end of the day though, these demakes are sad affairs. It brings up the question of “why doesn’t someone do this?” and some of these make me sad knowing they are not games that we will see. Couple those feelings with really awesome works like this demake of Far Cry 4 and it is not much fun writing these articles.
Who knows, maybe we will see this released as a free ROM, though I doubt it since this was probably created in the style of SNES/Genesis games only, not using actual compatible code.
What are some of your favorite demakes out there? Halo 2600 maybe?
