In Development: Tiny Knight by Collectorvision

Tiny Knight is a work in progress from Collectorvision, so early that we have only gotten one screen for it.  Collectorvision are known for their support of defunct platforms with new games that push the hardware.  Tiny Knight is hard to peg as to what platform it will be released on but it appears to be at least a 16-Bit platform meaning either the Super Nintendo or the Sega Genesis.

As you can see from the pic, Tiny Knight is very reminiscent of the classic Wonder Boy in Monster Land.  That is a great retro title to be emulating with a new release since Wonder Boy is horribly ignored.  I am not sure why companies have ignored Wonder Boy like they have, that game series is like a 2D side scrolling Legend of Zelda- possibly a marketing trump card that Sega failed to capitalize on (yeah, yeah, I know there were a TON of those).

The homebrew world definitely needs more action adventure titles as we are getting over run with scrolling shooters (I am not even complaining one little bit there either).  I just think we need more variety in the games that are coming out and so far we are getting it from the plethora of companies, teams and individuals working on new games.Tiny Knight Wonder Boy retro game Collectorvision

For those that don’t know, Wonder Boy was an action game that had some light role playing game elements mixed that broke up the action a bit (similar to Legend of Zelda from Nintendo).  Some gamers may remember seeing something called Monster World- that is part of the Wonder Boy series too.  North American Turbo Grafx-16 gamers may remember Dragon’s Curse, which is just Wonder Boy III: Dragon’s Trap renamed.  This series has gotten around but Sega really flopped on the marketing.

As I find out more about Tiny Knight I will make sure to update you.
