Bandit Gaming: Owl Hunt Expands on King’s Quest V in Unique Way

Ah, the classic King’s Quest series.  A series that used to be a mainstay in gaming and a very viable reason to purchase a computer considering only one King’s Quest game was ever ported to a home console (quick, name it!).  This series started in the early days of computing and lasted up to the point where 3D cards such as the 3Dfx Voodoo series and NEC PowerVR cards advanced PC gaming.  Innovative independent programming group, Dead Owl Productions, have created an original game called Owl Hunt that expands on the world of King’s Quest V.

King’s Quest V was seminal release because it was the first in the Sierra line of point and click adventure titles to actually offer true “point and click” mechanics.  Their previous releases were text based interactive affairs, no use of the mouse to do things.  With King’s Quest V though, gamers were able to click on objects on the screen, in the game world, and directly interact with them.  This was revolutionary for the time.

For many gamers, Cedric the Owl was more of a nuisance than a help while playing King’s Quest V.  Thanks to Dead Owl Productions you can now take out your anger on Cedric in a manner that is definitely NOT Sierra.  For anyone that has been a gamer for very long, Owl Hunt will be familiar from the get go, your character is at the bottom of the screen and you’re going to shoot arrows to bring down Cedric much like you used the Nintendo Light Gun in Duck Hunt on the NES.Owl Hunt Dead Owl Productions Kings Quest 2 V

Unlike the classic Nintendo game, Cedric doesn’t just fly around and let you shoot him then fly off when you are out of ammo.  No, Cedric is a sentient owl, one that can speak and understands danger.  Cedric is an owl that will kill you if he has the chance- he doesn’t play like other creatures do in these hunting games.

King’s Quest V fans, or even Duck Hunt hunters, will surely find some enjoyment in Owl Hunt- there are no real spoilers for King’s Quest V so you can play this as a standalone game.  Grab Owl Hunt from Dead Owl Productions here.
