It seems that in classic games there was a lot of food and food preparers involved. From titles such as Burger Time to Food Fight and many others, food was a prominent component of early video games, even Pac-Man had food as a central point. Since the gameplay had to be kept simple back then we got a lot of ingenuity in the games, to a point then everyone just started cloning the more popular stuff (Alien as a Pac-Man clone anyone?). Chief Chef takes food in gaming to a new genre that, as far as I know, is not explored yet.
Chief Chef mixes gameplay elements from two classic Activision titles, Kaboom and Pressure Cooker (Atari Age calls PC a hidden gem in the Atari 2600 library). Basically, you are tasked with calming down the Chief Chef who has climbed to the top of the restaurant. From his rooftop perch, the chef is throwing food and you are in the unenviable position of catching that food. The problem is, the mad chef is insistent that you catch the food in a certain order, if you collect two of the same food items in a row then the game is over. Sounds simple. Retro gaming fans know that these games are anything but simple.
Chief Chef is currently available for free over on the Atari Age forums. The latest version is listed as “CC6.bin” so grab that one.

The chef character is fairly high resolution for an O2 game, and the price is certainly right.
There’s an O2 emulator for Android. Wouldn’t it be nice to play these old games on iOS? Anyone?
Definitely would love to see more options in the emulation area for iOS devices but that is due to how Apple manages access to outside of the app sources. Sucks.
