Easter Egg: Blast Lemmings with Super Scope 6 in Super Nintendo Lemmings Game

Easter eggs are popular, at least they were before taking a nosedive worse than scrolling shooters did in the first decade of this century.  There was a time when Easter Eggs were frowned upon, we are looking at you Warren Robinette and your “sticking it to the man” egg in Atari’s Adventure for the Atari 2600.  During the 8-Bit Nintendo NES days though, Easter Eggs took on a whole new meaning and were lauded by fans, there were publications detailing what games had them, how to find them and more.  Jump one console generation to the Super Nintendo and a little game known as “Lemmings 2: The Tribes” by Psygnosis (prior to Sony buying them out they were capable of unique and interesting games).  Add in a recently discovered trick using the Super Scope 6 and you have a, rather pointless but, fun method of disposing of your little onscreen guys (there is a nuke button but what fun is that?).

2086-lemmings-2-super-scope-easter-eggLemmings games were an early precursor to those time management games that are all the rage, or at least were, on Android and iOS.  While you didn’t have to wait upwards of hours for things to happen, you did have to wait for the little Lemmings to get to the point in the level where you could use their special power to affect the terrain, other Lemmings, or advance the group.  Each level required a certain number of Lemmings to be alive and able to continue for you to beat that particular level- any extras could be disposed of as you went as you saw fit, as long as you had the minimum at the end.  “Hand of God” style players had a field day with this mechanic once they got the hang of the various levels.

How do you implement this Easter Egg?  Easy, you simply plug in the Super Scope 6 and start blasting.  No word on if the Sega Genesis version allows the use of the Sega Menacer for a similar effect.

Recently, Lemmings 2: The Tribes on Super Nintendo has saw fit to reveal it’s deep, well hidden, secret.  You can use the Nintendo Super Scope 6 to dispose of the little guys as you see fit.  While this will in no way help you complete the levels, it is an interesting option for those that are fed up with the difficulty in making the Lemmings do your will.
