Hardware hacks and mods are quite interesting, while modern gamers get official stuff from the manufacturer. That is if you are into simply having an alternate color or some other simple cosmetic change. Modders like Vadu Amka are not content with doing that type of hardware mod though, no, just changing the color is not an option. Vadu Amka has gone completely into the darker side of modding with this Castlevania themed Super Famicom mod, complete with a skull on the power button. Check out the pics and vids after the jump.
This mod features chains, crosses, a coffin, skeleton, whips, wood and gilding among many other visual enhancements to ponder at in this mod. Vadu Amka has never just gotten “close” and called it a day, no these mods are above and beyond what you will probably ever see elsewhere.
Even the controller is modded in a similar fashion so as to make it match the system. The buttons look like rivets that you might expect to find sticking out of Frankenstein’s monster’s neck. The controller also features a weathered wood looking finish, like it was created from a coffin that was just dug up from its several hundred year slumber.
This mod was apparently started in April of this year and finally finished recently. That is a long time to dedicate to creating something like this but it shows in the quality.
Castlevania has been a staple series for Konami nearly from the moment it first hit the gaming world on the MSX computer in Japan. Over the years, Konami has released Castlevania on the Game Boy, Nintendo NES, Nintendo SNES, Sega Genesis, Sony Playstation, and so on. In Japan there have been a few versions that never hit our shores such as the Sharp X68000 version (covered in issue #2 of RGM) though we did see a port of this version on the Playstation as Castlevania Chronicles.
What version of Castlevania gets your blood pumping?
