Run and gun games really became a staple in gaming with the Nintendo Entertainment System and a little title named Contra. The Commodore 64 was not exactly overflowing with them but there were a few arcade ports (even a Contra game or two amongst them) that featured this style of gameplay. Powerglove, a new homebrew title, is looking to expand the run and gun category on the Commodore 64 on an actual cartridge- now it is available for more platforms.
The cartridge is compatible with the Commodore 64, 128 and the Commodore GS video game console (the what?). Head over to RGCD.DEV if you want a physical cartridge in standard format (cardboard box) or the deluxe edition (Universal Game Case). The cartridge is just a shade over $34 while the ROM download is just under $3.25 (not bad and cool that they are releasing the ROM).
There is a strong Contra and Mega Man vibe coming from this one so fans of either game should definitely check it out.
If you are a fan of run and gun games, grab Powerglove even if you don’t have a Commodore 64 laying around anymore- you can play the ROM in an emulator.
