Bandit Gaming: Donkey Kong Country Recreated Using Doom Engine

The headline is not misleading in any way. A modder by the name of “DooMero” has used the Doom engine, specifically the GZDooM hack, to recreate Donkey Kong Country in a 2.5D side scrolling platformer. The results are quite interesting to say the least.

This modification goes as far as reworking the Rare logo, a new title screen and even includes the text from Donkey Kong Country in pretty much the same places. Some liberties were taken here in regards to explosions and level design. While not perfect, the hit detection is a little off and the controls are reportedly tough to work with, this recreation is pretty interesting. It is cool seeing the Donkey Kong Country levels in 2.5D style and getting to play a new take on the game.
