Game Hack- Ghostbusters Not Only Back in Theaters but also Receive Color Fix on Sega Genesis

Since Ghostbusters is being re-released in theaters to celebrate its 30th anniversary, we figured it would be a good time to mention this color hack for their Sega Genesis game. The original suits in the 16-Bit game were not quite “true” to the movie props and now a fan has taken it upon themselves to correct that problem.

For those that do not know, Ghostbusters is getting a theatrical re-release in over 700 theaters across the United States (started Thursday, August 28th). This is to celebrate the 30th anniversary for the film, and is a good way to cash in on nostalgia (tickets are not discounted in any way for this re-release).

The Ghostbusters game follows the team as they are having financial problems (ghost activity dropped significantly). The guys are hurting pretty bad at this point. All at once though a ton of calls come in about new ghost activities across the city (quick, without Googling, what city is Ghostbusters based in?). To add to the drama, an earthquake hits at this moment, not only causing trouble getting around but also concern that all of the events are connected somehow. Within the four levels there is a piece of a stone tablet that leads to a fifth, harder, level on a quest to save the lives of your fellow Ghostbusters.Ghostbusters sega genesis 16-bit 2

Fans of the movies will probably have already realized that this story is nowhere near what happens in either movie. That is because it is not. Sega went “unique” with their story though they kept the likenesses of the stars (somewhat).

Now, what does this color hack fix? In the original Ghostbusters game, the suits were blue. In the movies, they were khaki colored. Now, after applying the patch, the Sega Ghostbusters will be wearing suits that are closer to their movie counterparts (even in the cutscenes).Ghostbusters sega genesis 16-bit

To grab the color hack, head over to ROMHacking.net, we cannot help you with getting the ROM for Ghostbusters though- Sega has not released it as freeware.
