Quick, without the help of Google, name off the number of games where you play a deer. No, hunting games don’t count- you are not controlling the deer in those rather you are shooting them. Other than Rocky and Bullwinkle (which did not involve a deer but a moose) there are not many games that pay homage to these four legged graceful creatures. Until now.
Crescent Moon Games, the people responsible for Paper Monsters and Shadow Blade on mobile, are throwing their unique spin on 2.5D side scrolling, Metroidvania, deer games. The story behind The Deer God involves re-incarnation of a hunter as a deer (fitting) and the struggle to survive this plight.
The interesting thing about this game is that your off spring (did I mention checkpoints involve mating with another deer?) will continue if you die. So, whenever you die, it is not you that is coming back but your child who is looking to wreak havok on the murderer of their father. Talk about a deep storyline.
