Everyone that has been gaming since the Nintendo NES days will probably have fond memories of setting up challenges with siblings or friends. High score challenges, who can beat the most levels, etc are probably valid reasons to get competitive with Nintendo’s mascot’s first adventure. Thanks to hackers you don’t have to do a lot of things on the honor system, such as keeping score.
One of the cooler features of this hack is that the high scores are kept in SRAM so you no longer have to keep score in a book or some other form that can be tampered with. Other options that can be changed to add/remove challenge include how often extra men are awarded, timer speed and starting lives to name a few.
Interested in getting some competitive Super Mario Bros going on at your next gaming get together? Head ove to ROMHacking.net and grab the patch. We cannot link directly to Super Mario Bros since Nintendo has not released it as freeware.
